We've had some trouble contacting our friends at Have Sun Will Travel, but tonight we were able to confirm that HSWT will host a swim tomorrow night, October 3, 2009 at the Westerville JC Pool from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Nude Beach in Cleveland?
Greetings Fellow Naturists! We have received word of a movement to create a legal nude beach in the Cleveland area and are glad to pass it along:
Hello, from a fellow Buckeye naturist! I'm in the Cleveland area, and I'm pretty much in the same boat as the rest of the state when it comes to nude beaches in the state of Ohio. A local website has been created to bring "Good Ideas" to the front of the local political and business leaders of the greater Cleveland area. The website is www.clevelandideas.com. Cedar Trails Nudist Retreat July 10-12, 2009
Although The Buckeye Naturists club is not organizing any summer visitations this year, any members or friends are asked to post here and on the Blogspot (http://www.tbnaturists.blogspot.com/) if you plan to visit a club. That way, anyone else who wants to visit a club can have the option to join you.
So, let me be first! I am planning to visit Cedar Trails Nudist Retreat (http://www.cedartrailsnudistretreat.com/) for National Nude Weekend. I plan to arrive Friday evening, July 10 and pull out Sunday morning, July 12, 2009.
Cedar Trails is just a great place to visit with hiking trails, a super pool, cabin rentals, tent sites, camper and RV sites, etc. They offer great food at the snack bar and great entertainment in the evenings at the shelter.
I always have a great time there and I'm looking forward to another visit this year. I hope you all can join me!

Swim Tonight is On!
Greetings Fellow Naturists:
The weather looks iffy, but there are no active watches or warnings so I guess we'll go ahead and host the swim tonight as scheduled. I hope you'll all come out and join us.
On a side note: Brad Mills' mother passed away this week and Brad and Deb are not expecting to come tonight. Condolences to Brad and Debbie and their families, of course. But that will also leave me alone at the check in desk.
If anyone is willing to sacrifice 20-30 minutes of their swimming time to help out, it will be appreciated!

Fall and Winter Swims Resume!
Greetings Fellow Naturists!
After a great summer of visitations to landed clubs, we are ready to begin our Fall and Winter Swims once again.
As before, our sister club "Have Sun Will Travel" will host a swim on the first Saturday of each month and we'll host on the third Saturday.
That means the first swim is tomorrow night, October 4, hosted by Have Sun Will Travel. Our first swim will be October 18.
Results from the survey we published last spring, a clear majority want to have a more formal meeting at least once a year. Our bylaws don't really provide for meetings except the annual election of Trustees in November. But I think it will be healthy to offer a more formal meeting.
Perhaps the first meeting should be to present and discuss the results of the survey, because so many of the questions have to do with possible changes to the club or its activities.
So, at our first swim, October 18, I will ask for consensus on when and where to have our first meeting. A question to be decided is whether to limit attendance to only members, or whether to open it up to all interested parties. Please think about this and help to decide.
Last winter we enjoyed a marked increase in attendance at the swims and in club memberships. If this trend continues we are close to being at the break-even point financially. If either declines, we may not be able to continue throughout the entire 2008-2009 season. Something to think about.
I hope you will all join us at the swims, attend the meeting and encourage others to join as members.

Successful Club Visitation to Paradise Gardens
The Buckeye Naturists visited Paradise Gardens over the weekend (June 20-22) and a great time was had by all. Our friends from Have Sun Will Travel joined us.
This was the first time to visit Paradise Gardens for many of us and we were quite impressed. PG is an upscale nudist resort set on 35 acres. There were dozens of season-long campers and a healthy number of club members out in the sun Saturday afternoon.
Our folks enjoyed the pool, volleyball, petanque, hiking, sunning and conversation as well as a fine potluck dinner hosted by TBN for Saturday supper. The club furnished turkey and pulled chicken barbecue and lemonade.
There were a total of 8 visitors from TBN in addition to the HSWT members (didn't get a count for them) and, although there was a late-afternoon thundershower to cool things off, that really didn't hamper our activities.
Our next visitation will be July 11-13 (main day June 12) at Cedar Trails. This will be National Nude Weekend, so we're hoping for a good turnout.

Membership Drive
The Buckeye Naturists® club in Columbus, Ohio, is looking for new members! All are welcome! If you are interested in experiencing the fun and freedom of naturism, then please join us for our May 17 nude swim, for free ($10 value). Membership in TBN is $20.00 per year, per family, couple or individual. Benefits of membership include discounted admission to our swims, a savings of up to $40 per year.
If it is your first time, you will be asked to show a valid government issued photo ID and fill out a short registration form. TBN Announces Dates for Summer Activities
The Buckeye Naturists will host visits to several area landed clubs during the summer of 2008. The season will kick off on Memorial Day (May 26) for the Spring Fun Bowl Volleyball Tournament at White Thorn Lodge. Other visitations will be on June 21, July 12 (National Nude Weekend) and August 9 and back to White Thorn Lodge for Fall Fun Bowl Volleyball Tournament on Labor Day (September 1). The summer season will conclude with the traditional Superbowl of Volleyball at White Thorn Lodge extravaganza September 11-15.

Your First Time
Your first experience with social nudism was when you were born. Since then, chances are you have been wearing clothes for most of your life, especially in mixed company. Because you are reading this, we assume that you are interested in social nudism. Perhaps this is just something you have read about, or maybe you know someone who is a nudist, or you might even be a closet nudist who spends a lot of time naked in your home. In any event, you want to try social nudism but are hesitant to take that final step, either because you are nervous about taking your clothes off in front of strangers, or you don't really know what to expect.
Just about anyone who has taken the plunge into social nudism will tell you that the hardest part was the anticipation. Once the clothes come off, most people feel comfortable very quickly, and the nudity becomes second nature. Many people become nudists for life, being nude whenever possible, and wearing clothes only when practical or necessary.
The nudist or naturist philosophy embraces many tenets, among which chiefly is the belief that every body is good. In our clothed society today, we use our textiles to cover up what we perceive to be imperfections in our flesh. There is a great deal of pressure to achieve physical perfection, a goal that is simply unattainable. Once you are naked with other people, you quickly realize that these differences are not imperfections, they are simply qualities which make us all look unique. A nude person is someone who literally has nothing to hide, and once the trappings of society are shed, so are the inhibitions and false modestly which makes many people unhappy with their own physical appearances.
Nudists also believe that social interaction with the absence of clothing should also be free of sexual expression and activities. The Buckeye Naturists is a non-sexual, family-oriented nudist organization. Any behavior that makes other members uncomfortable will not be tolerated. Basically any behavior that is unacceptable in church, or at the office, or in most mixed-company social situations, is also unacceptable to nudists.

If you are near central Ohio, a great way to start in social nudism is to come to a winter swim sponsored by The Buckeye Naturists. Everyone is welcome. When you visit a TBN swim for the first time, you'll be asked to fill out a short form and show a valid driver's license or other government-issued photo ID. All TBN events are clothing-optional. Most people in attendance will be nude, but there is no requirement or pressure to be nude at our winter swims. It's a great way to "take the plunge".
Don't forget your "bare necessities" such as money for admission and incidentals, as well as a couple of towels, one for sitting on and another for drying off. Beyond that, all you need is a smile.

Columbus Ohio Nude Swims January 5 and 19
The next Columbus-area indoor nude swims are Saturday night, January 5, 2008 (hosted by HSWT), and Saturday night, January 19, 2008 (hosted by TBN), at the Westerville J.C. pool, from 8 pm to around 10 pm. Non-members welcome.
Entry Fees: Member $5, Non-Member $10
Directions: From I-270, take Exit 29 / Route 3 / Westerville and turn right (north) onto State St. After passing McDonalds, turn right onto Schrock Rd. Make a left at the next light, onto Otterbein Ave. Continue past 3 stop signs. The pool is on the right, with on-street perpendicular parking.
